If you’d like to improve the tone and texture of your skin in a comfortable and non-invasive way, you may be a great candidate for LED light therapy. It’s a completely safe treatment that uses wavelengths to resolve acne breakouts and prevent new ones from arising, reduce hyperpigmentation and sun damage, and leave you with a more youthful appearance. Below, we’ll further discuss how LED light therapy works.
What Does LED Stand For?
LED is an acronym for Light-Emitting Diode, which is a semiconducting computer chip encased in glass that provides light when a current flows through it. It works just like photosynthesis or the process of plans absorbing light from the sun and converting it to energy. Put simply, LED gives your body the therapeutic rays it needs to regenerate skin cells so they can perform optimally and keep your skin looking young and beautiful.
What Happens During an LED Light Therapy Treatment?
During an LED light therapy treatment, one of our expert providers will use a professional light unit emit waves of light deep into your skin. You’ll notice various colored lights throughout your treatment. Each color can benefit your skin in a different way.
LED Light Therapy Consultations Available
While blue kills bacteria that causes acne, treat current acne and prevent new acne, red reduces inflammation and amber stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Before we perform the treatment, we can inform you of which colors will benefit your unique skin.
Good Candidates for LED Light Therapy
LED light therapy is a great option if you are struggling with acne and have had little to no success with topical creams and other treatments. It may also benefit you if you’re bothered by hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and age spots and/or rough skin texture.
While we often recommend LED light therapy to many patients, we discourage it for patients who are living with epilepsy, are taking medications that lead to light sensitivity, or have recently received Botox or other cosmetic fillers. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult your doctor before undergoing LED light therapy.
